The Galway Races

This is THE week to be in Galway! Over seven days, 250,000 people flock to Galway Races in the last week of July as the town comes alive. The excitement of the Galway Races extends beyond the thrill of horse racing. The festival features live music, exquisite food, stunning fashion displays, and excellent opportunities for people-watching. It’s a week packed with fun, where you might just end up a few euros richer—if luck is on your side. Regardless, you’re guaranteed to make new friends, nurse a hangover, and experience a week you’ll always remember.

Take in a festival

Visit Galway during festival time (March – October) and you’ll quickly see why the city is known as the festival capital of Ireland. Each year, Galway bursts into life with festivals that attract top local and international talent. The season starts with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in March and continues right through to the Galway Comedy Festival in October. Two major highlights of the summer include: The Galway International Arts Festival, featuring over 200 performances across 25 venues, captivating attendees with a blend of music, theatre, and art. Then there are the Galway Races, held in late July and early August, which bring the streets alive as thousands gather to enjoy the festivities. Additionally, the Galway Film Fleadh in July offers unique cinematic experiences, and the Galway Oyster Festival in September invites you to relish Guinness and oysters by the river. No matter what, be ready to revel in the celebrations—Galway Rooms is the place to be.

Walk Galway – Salthill

No visit to Galway would be complete without a stroll along the Salthill Promenade to the shores of Galway Bay. Step away from the city's hustle and either walk or cycle the 1.5 miles to the refreshing seaside. Starting from Galway Rooms, follow the river until you reach Wolfe Tone Bridge, then meander along Nimmo’s Pier by The Claddagh. Gaze across at the brightly painted houses on The Long Walk. You'll encounter both walkers and joggers, all enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Don’t forget to "kick the wall" at the end of the Prom—it’s a local tradition. And if you’re feeling adventurous, take a leap off the Blackrock diving board and join the swimmers in the Atlantic Ocean.
